NEW INITIATIVES

Uttarakhand Krishak Mahotsav

 

"Under the “Sarkar Kisan Ke Dwar” initiative of the govt. “Krishak Mahotsav” are being organized twice a year covering all 670 Nyay Panchayat (17115 Villages) benefiting about 95362 Farmers. The aim of this programme is to provide Veterinary services at the farmers, door step and at the same time awareness generation about new techniques and departmental schemes.

As is true for the rest of the country, livestock farming is germaine to Uttarakhand and forms an integral part of the rural economy contributing in some form or the other to household income and family nutrition, besides producing the much needed biomass and draught power for agricultural operations. This activity is carried out in millions of household across the state and provides employment to the marginal and landless farmers.

 

Gau Vigyan & Prodhyogiki Anusandhan Sansthan

Gau Vigyan & Prodhyogiki Anusandhan Sansthan is being established at Pashulok farm, Rishikesh for research on medicinal & other uses of Panchgavya (gau mutra, cow dung, milk, ghee and curd) and for encouraging farmers for Income generation by sale of Panchgavya especially cow urine(gau mutra), its distillate & by-products.

 

Cow Urine Distillate Utilization

The Gau mutra of indigenous cow has antioxidant & antitoxin properties which can be exploited for the preparation of various Ayurvedic Pharmaceuticals. Considering the medicinal value of Gau mutra Ark the state government has signed MOU with Patanjali Yog Peeth, Haridwar for sale of Gau mutra Ark. This has the potential for financial benefits to both the farmers and the department.

Conservation & Propagation of Red Sindhi Cattle by Embryo Transfer

Cattle Breeding Farm at Kalsi has been upgraded and developed into a model farm for the conservation and propagation of indigenous Red Sindhi breed of cattle through the use of Embryo Transfer technology. Till the financial year 2009-10, 22 calves have been born by embryo transfer at the farm and 123 transferable Red Sindhi embryos have been preserved in deep frozen form for future use / export.

 

Gau Vansh Punarvasan Kendra

Cattle Rehabilitation centre for stray, non-productive, old and sick cattle has been established in Pashulok (Rishikesh) on 117.5 acres of land situated aesthetically on the banks of river ganga. The centre will be managed by some voluntary charitable organization under the expert supervision of State level committee.

 

Strengthening & Modernization Veterinary Health Services

Five strategically placed Veterinary Hospitals (Vikasnagar, Bhadrabad, Rudrapur, Tanakpur and Pithoragarh) in 5 different districts of the state have been modernized by providing them with state of art diagnostic and surgical equipments.

 

Expansion of Extension Network

Under the Atal Adarsh Gram Vikas Yojna of the state government, a total of 110 Veterinary dispensaries (SMCs) have been established at Nyay Panchayat level for further strengthening of institutional infrastructure at the grass root level.

 

Establishment of Managerial Information System

A computerized statistical cell has been established for the maintenance of a central data base & efficient management of the MIS under 50 % centrally assistance has been established at Directorate of Animal Husbandry based at Dehradun.

 

Rastriya Krishi Vikas Yojana

Presently under Rastriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) following schemes have been sanctioned in Uttarakhand

  • Promotion of Japanese Quail for Livelihood Improvement.
  • Establishment of three Parent Kuroiler farms.
  • Strengthening and Modernization of cattle farm, Kalsi.
  • Strengthening of Kalsi Farm.
  • Strengthening of Angora Breeding farm, Gwaldam.
  • Pilot Project for Establishment of Barbari goat at Gwaldam.
  • Chamoli and other districts of Uttarakhand.
  • Establishment of 48 fodder banks.

 

Big Dairy Scheme for Dairy Entrepreneurs

In an effort to encourage dairy entrepreneurs and to provide them with initial financial assistance at concessional interest rate, the department has started Big Dairy Scheme under the purview of Venture Capital Fund Scheme of NABARD. The scheme is getting popular fast. (see details below)
